Today we’re going to show you how to change your Toyota Rav 4 Cabin filter and just how easy it is proving to you why you should not spend $70 dollars at the dealership. This guide is sparked by a family member who recently took their vehicle in for service at a Toyota dealership and I won’t get into my thoughts on their pricing for such a simple task.
Vehicle: 2016 Toyota Rav 4
Tools / Supplies needed:
- New Cabin Air filter price range $4-$20
Step 1: Get into the passenger side of the vehicle and locate the “glove box”
Step 2: Open the glove box and look to the right side (closest to the passenger side door) for a little mechanism that looks like this:
Step 3: Pinch the little nubs on this mechanism together and pull the latch outwards
Step 4: Once the mechanism is released, push both sides of the glove box in so the little catch release stops located on either side of the glove box as indicated with the arrow clear the dash and allow the glove box to release forward. Once it pulls forward and can be lifted off like this:
Step 5: locate the box below and pull on the tab where the arrow is and a trap door will open up. This is where your filter is located. Pull the old filter out and pop the new one in (note yours may have a specific direction it needs to point when it goes in, it will be marked on the filter and straight forward to understand as it will have an arrow on it.
Step 5: Reverse all the steps above, snap the trap door back on, pinch either side of your glove box and push it closed. Open it back up and attach the latch on the right side and enjoy breathing cleaner air and more than $50 in your pocket.
It will have taken you longer to read this guide than it will to install your new cabin filter. As always, if you found this article helpful share it on your social media platforms and forums. The more people we can help the better – and besides, who doesn’t enjoy a little extra change in their pocket?
