A Brief Look at Jaguar BS-VI Product Line-Up

Today’s blog post comes to us from corners that stretch out from our typical North American markets. Luxury carmakers are catching up in the Indian market. Almost a decade ago, owning a luxury car would simply reflect the owner as a millionaire, but that isn’t the case no more. This also means that the sales numbers of these cars are significantly higher than what it would have been in the last decade.

In India, it’s Mercedes-Benz that holds the crown for being the most popular luxury automaker. However, brands like Audi, BMW, and Jaguar are only close behind.

Jaguar Land Rover – which is now owned by the Tata Group – makes some of the most interesting vehicles in the market. Where Land Rover is synonymous for making luxury SUVs, the Jaguar marque is mostly known for sportier sedans.

Here’s a quick look at all the Jaguar models on sale in India, as of late-2020. Read on.

1.      Jaguar XE

While the Jaguar XE may only seem like an entry-level model, there’s much more to it than its relatively affordable pricing. Given the opportunity to update it to meet the stringent BS-VI emission standards, Jaguar also refreshed the XE entry-level sedan with a dose of cosmetic updates both inside and out. It was, after all, done to bring it up-to-speed with the competition. Therefore, the BS6 Jaguar XE brought with it some sportier styling, which made it all the more stunning, especially in the Caldera Red shade paired with the satin grey wheels we tested.

The interiors, too, feature subtle changes overall. The most noticeable of all is the new climate control section, which has now transitioned to touch-based functions rather than plain knobs. Available in two trims – S and SE – the Jaguar XE comes powered by two engines – a 178bhp, 2.0-litre diesel and a 247bhp, 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine.

2.      Jaguar XF

Only a few days ago, Jaguar has officially revealed the 2021 facelift version of the ageing XF. Jaguar has been selling the second-generation model of the XF for quite some time now, and there’s no going away from the fact that it now seems like a bit too long in the tooth. The only fly in the ointment with the current-gen XE is the rear seat, itself is really comfortable but legroom and headroom are at a premium so you just can’t stretch out as you can in its rivals. That makes it all the less desirable, especially in a segment where the long-wheelbase E-Class reigns supreme. In the BS6 era, the XF has only remained with a sole 2.0-litre petrol engine, which is good for 247bhp and 365Nm of torque. The engine, while not being the most economical, makes for a good choice for the enthusiasts. Moreover, it is now also available in just the Prestige trim.

3.      Jaguar F-Pace

The F-Pace is the only SUV in the Jaguar line-up, and also its most enticing model on sale. After all, SUVs are all the craze today in each and every market, and, of course, also in India. Last month, Jaguar officially took the wraps off the F-Pace facelift, which is expected to go on sale in the international markets later this year.

With that in mind, the current-gen model does seem a bit older now in comparison. It comes powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which is capable of churning out 247bhp and 365Nm of torque. It, too, like the XF is only available in the Prestige trim.

4.      Jaguar F-Type

The F-Type is the brand’s flagship model as of 2020 and it packs a lot of punch for the buck. It comes powered by either a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol making 297bhp and 400Nm of torque (P300) and a 5.0-litre, supercharged V8 in two states of tune. The less powerful V8 is the P450 with 447bhp and 580Nm of torque, and the range-topping V8 is the P575 with 571bhp and 700Nm.

Moreover, it is available in two body styles – Coupe and Convertible – with the Convertible being more desirable and pricier of the two. It is the Jaguar to own in 2020 if budget is not a concern.
