Logos of automotive brands often become iconic symbols. From Lamborghini’s golden bull to Toyota’s distinctive ovals, many of these brands can be identified just by their logos. Some brands have never changed their designs, while others have undergone many transformations through the years. The right logo revamp can refresh and invigorate the public’s perception of a company. The following infographic from PartsGeek visualizes the unique logo evolutions of 25 different automotive companies.
Which major auto maker has changed their logo the most? Since Volkswagen debuted their first logo in 1937, the brand has made more than a dozen changes. While many of the changes were minor tweaks and variations, Volkswagen’s original logo is very different from the current logo.
Nissan’s logo has also changed many times throughout history. The one thing that has remained constant is that the logo incorporates the full name of the brand. The font and style of the logo has changed significantly, from a cursive style in the 1960s to the bold and modern logo that is used today.
Mercedes-Benz is another manufacturer that has changed their logo frequently. Today, the symbol is a memorable three-point star inside a circle, but the original logo represents the first Mercedes vehicle marketed by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in 1902. It wasn’t until years later that Mercedes-Benz adopted the iconic design their most known for.
Other automotive brands have chosen to make very few changes to their logos. For instance, Ferrari has made minor changes through the years all while keeping their timeless Prancing Horse imagery intact. BMW has only had 5 logo changes since the original in 1917, though all iterations have included the classic quadrant design. Luxury car manufacturer Bentley has had the same logo since its creation in 1919.
