Note: Score corresponds to the number of columns “won” by a particular oil. The more columns won the higher the score. So if 2 columns are won, than the score will be 2, if 1 column is won the score will be 1, so on and so forth. Winners are based on the highest amount of columns won thereby in my mind showing the best value.

Synthetic Winners: Amsoil Signature series 0W20 oil. That being said, I really like Redlines numbers for pour point numbers which I consider very important, especially for those that live in a colder climate. But especially with the $8.15/quart for Amsoil (through our Sponsors membership pricing) as opposed to $12.48/quart for Redline oil. I like Amsoil’s bang for your dollar. I really wish Royal Purple gave a pour point number for this oil- I think they would offer great competition to Amsoil. I really like the high viscosity index numbers they put up for their 0W20 oil.

Non Synthetic Winners: Castrol GTX – These guys win by default as I have not yet seen another 0W20 conventional oil. In my opinion, the numbers aren’t too bad however I do not like how low their pour point numbers are. I know at least here in the North I have seen temperature get into the -40’s on cold mornings and to me my vehicle would not have sufficient protection during startups on those days.

Oil will almost always spark a debate – If you found the above chart to be useful to you, please share it among your car forums and social groups.

The oil industry consistently spends millions on research and development while exploring new engineering technologies. Petroleum companies can apply for the R&D tax credit to offset the high cost of their research business.
